Day in a life at Object – Tyron

Ever wonder what it’s like to work at a company? It’s hard to tell what company culture is really like until you start your role. We think this series may help you when deciding whether Object is a good career fit for you or whether you want to learn more about our staff. In this article we chat with one of our Senior Consultants, Tyron, about his experience at Object since he started with us and what a day in a life at Object is like for him. He has been with Object for 3 years now and has taken part in several successful projects by designing, developing and implementing software solutions for our clients.

What was your first day at Object like?

I started out the day getting to work 20 minutes early, not knowing what to expect. I had induction, which was a series of meetings with a whole lot of information about Object, current and past projects as well as events and meet-ups. I remember going out for several coffees one after the other with key staff members I would be working with.

What does the start of your day look like?

Two out of five work days I wake up at 5am, get ready for work and go to gym. From the gym, I go straight to the train station to get into work by 7:45am-8:00am. We have a stand-up (Scrum) meeting around 10am which consists of a full team standing in a circle detailing what we did the day before and what we are doing today and any issues we are facing.

What teams do you work with?

I generally work with different project teams which include project managers, business analysts and software developers. I’ve been working on an exciting project for a government client that is due to launch in the upcoming months.

How do you organise your day?

My day is organised by reviewing the tasks I need to complete on Jira (Our Task Management Software). This work has been written by the Business Analyst, estimated by the developers and put into an iteration by a weekly or fortnightly planning session.

What do your afternoons generally look like?

Writing code and helping others where needed! There are many times where I would visit client sites, attend client meetings and even stay on site.

What are your favourite things about working at Object?

  • Great people to work with, who are approachable for questions and technical ideas
  • Flexible
  • Ability to work from home if needed

Do you have any advice for new hires?

If you ever need anything don’t hesitate to ask! Everybody is very friendly and willing to help at Object.

We hope this gave you some insight on what a day looks like at the Object office and you learned a thing or two about Tyron. Are you looking for new career opportunities? Contact Object today and provide your CV, we are always looking for new tech talent who love a challenge and are passionate about what they do.
