Media and Telecommunications
Historically the telecommunications industry was split along functional or technology lines such as landline, wireless, long distance, local loop, cable etc. Today there is no real long distance market, and nearly every segment has been blurred by convergence – the coming together of the Internet, broadband, computers, and mobiles with content. The reality of a telecoms provider, or Telco, is that it has a lot of complex interconnected systems as it is essentially supplying real-time managed services in high volume. These services rely on a complex web of transmission equipment, communications links, network devices, and control systems as well as a wide range of business and operations support systems.
Object's vision is to help telecoms providers to become New Age Telcos. This means breaking the shackles of fixed line and voice centric thinking , and embracing the possibilities of the purely digital world in which there is convergence at nearly every level such as networks, systems, services, and devices. A New Age Telco is customer, not product, centric and is constantly looking to add services that are of value to their customers. Broadband, especially mobile broadband, is the cornerstone of the New Age Telco since it offers a combination of voice, data, and video and allows new services to be offered for very low cost. A New Age Telco is not just focused on rolling our next-generation networks, but is looking at how their new IT oriented approach to systems can transfer into increasingly profitable business services and how the customer experience can be continually extended and improved as familiarity with the technology builds on both sides.
Object has nearly 20 years' experience advising and delivering solutions to Telcos and is proud to count Australia's leading Telcos as clients. In fact, our depth of experience is such that we used to be involved in some of the more complex technical areas, like Intelligent Networks. As the Telcos themselves have evolved and broadened their offerings, Object has chosen to focus on the business and support aspects of telecommunications systems - as distinct from network centric. To this end, Object has established a specialist Media and Telecommunications Practice focused on the increasingly important role of content and how it is delivered.
Common telecommunications enterprise requirements such as CRM, network management and billing are now met by packages and therefore these are commodity platforms. Telcos now aim to differentiate themselves through content, value-added services and flexibility. It is in these areas that Object's Media and Telecommunications Practice is specialising and is able to assist.
Object is particularly strong at the type of enterprise level software lifecycle work that characterises a Telco. From architecture through to project management, testing and even support, we are experts at solving complex problems. Object is an ideal partner to assist Telcos with complex problems and engineering centric operations as there is a close fit to our proudly technical culture.
