Kevin Francis says green architectural design is becoming of utmost importance in a global drive for sustainable IT solutions.

SYDNEY, 1 May, 2009 –Object's published article on The Green Maturity Model for Virtualisation in Issue 18 of The Architecture Journal is generating global interest. Co-authored with Chief iP Officer Peter Richardson, Object Consulting's National Practice and Productivity Manager Kevin Francis will be discussing the Maturity Model for Virtualisation and applications to "green" architectural design at JAOO'09 in Sydney on 8 May 2009.

Kevin Francis says green architectural design is becoming of utmost importance in a global drive for sustainable IT solutions. "Both the problem of the environmental cost of IT and the potential solutions that IT can offer are not well understood. This is not helped by the significant amount of hype from software vendors, hardware vendors and consultants. Object Consulting wanted to be able to present a clean and simple model that organisations could use as a set of principles for making their IT architectures and infrastructures more sustainable – independent of platforms", he adds.

The result was Object Consulting's Virtualisation Maturity Model. This model provides a layer-by-layer approach to reducing the total environmental impact of an organisation's IT infrastructure. By moving each piece from one layer to the next, the environmental impact can be reduced and cost savings realised.

In his presentation at JAOO'09, Kevin will explain the compelling need for sustainable architecture design and then provide a set of achievable architectural principles and constructs that can and should be adopted in the design of all applications. This will allow architects to lower both the environmental cost of applications but also significantly lower the ongoing operating cost of applications.
